iPhone 15 Pro Max should use the name “Ultra” after all
Rescuing rumors discarded for months, the journalist of the Apple Insider portal, Andrew O’Hara, suggested citing multiple sources that the iPhone 15 Pro Max should hit stores with another name: iPhone 15 Ultra. The change would align Apple’s smartphone lineup with competitors, and try to move the most advanced model further away from the standard Pro variant, although at the moment only improvements in camera, screen size and battery capacity are expected.
Just over a month after the arrival of the iPhone 14 line, rumors about the iPhone 15 family had already begun to circulate. One of the most interesting indicated that we would see an important change in the nomenclature of the devices, with the introduction of an “iPhone 15 Ultra” along the lines of what rivals like Samsung and Xiaomi already do, adopting the Ultra to symbolize the most complete solution in a line — as Apple itself already does on the Watch Ultra.
The information was still not entirely clear, and suggested that we could have a completely new premium model, or even see the Pro Max variant give way to the Ultra. That possibility was ruled out shortly afterwards, and since then the most advanced model of Apple’s next generation has been called the iPhone 15 Pro Max in virtually every rumor, following the already established pattern.
Now, on the eve of the launch of the devices, a new report rescues the name iPhone 15 Ultra, indicating that this should really be the final name of Apple’s most premium cell phone for 2023. At least that’s what sources heard by journalist Andrew O’ Hara, who recalls the old rumors and cites some of the differences that the novelty should embark on compared to the simpler iPhone 15 Pro.
Apparently, the giant must reserve the awaited periscope telephoto lens with 5x or 10x optical zoom for the iPhone 15 Ultra, accompanying battery and larger screens – a strategy similar to what the company already adopts for the Pro and Pro Max generation duos passed. Aspects such as the titanium construction, the replacement of the Mute button by the Action Button, the adoption of a USB-C port with Thunderbolt and the use of the A17 Bionic chip, manufactured by TSMC in the unprecedented 3nm lithography, would be shared among the more premium releases .
As O’Hara points out, the alleged name change is not something innovative, but it does indicate how Apple intends to position the phone, with chances of having another differential that the manufacturer is keeping secret – something that should not take long a lot for us to discover.
Still without confirmation from Apple, the iPhone 15 family is expected to arrive between September 12th and 13th, at the brand’s traditional end-of-year event. In addition to smartphones, the launches of the Apple Watch Series 9 line, the seventh generation of the iPad Mini and, possibly, some new model of AirPods are expected.
